Greenshaw High and Coombe Bank Schools, London

Client: Mace
Role: Design Adviser

Sarah was independently advising Mace on two significant school projects in London: Greenshaw High School in Sutton and Coombe Boys School in Kingston. Coombe Boys School is renowned for its sports specialism, with many students competing at the county level. The school has a strong partnership with the nearby Fulham Football Club, utilizing their training ground and facilities at various times.

As part of an exciting new development, Coombe Boys is building a state-of-the-art sports facility, which will include a sports hall, fitness suite, activity studio, PE classrooms, and other essential facilities. This new building is also designed with community use in mind, which influences the design of access points, flexible changing rooms, and lockers. Additionally, a new Tiger Turf MUGA (multi-use games area) is being constructed as part of the development.

Both projects are set in highly constrained locations, surrounded by residential properties on all sides. This requires careful planning and complex logistics to ensure that both schools remain operational and students are kept safe during the construction process. Temporary accommodation will be provided at both schools while the new buildings are completed, ensuring minimal disruption to daily activities.

Throughout this process, Sarah is providing expert advice to the technical advisers, helping to guide the projects to successful outcomes that balance functionality, safety, and community integration.
